US Embassy Ghana And Ahaspora Partner On Mentoring Initiative

AhasporaSince its inception in 2013, Ahaspora Young Professionals, Ghana (Ahaspora) has been mentoring senior high school students throughout the nation through the “Changing Mindsets, Channeling ourFuture”initiative.

To date, over 300 students have participated in a day-long mentoring event which has exposed them to career counseling, professional development and civic engagement activities. Some notable guests have included Patrick Awuah, Founder of Ashesi University, Ehi Binitee; Co-Founder of Rancard Solutions and Bernard Avle, Manager at Citi FM.

Impact of US Embassy funding on Ahaspora

The initiative also includes a year-long one-on-one mentoring program between 30 Ahasporans and 30 students each year. 2016 marks a pivotal moment for Ahaspora, with the gracious funding from the United States Embassy in Ghana, Ahaspora is expanding the initiative to be more impactful to our students.

Due to this funding, Ahaspora will initiate a leadership retreat during the long vacation in August 2016 in addition to the day-long Mentoring Event it has held in December for the past 3 years, and a career day in April 2017.

The funding also allows for visits to mentees in their schools and eventually to establish clubs to engage students in socio-economic activities that will make them better citizens and well-rounded employers and employees.

These continuous engagements and exposure to a global mindset that Ahasporans will provide students will leverage our education and work experiences in the United States and other countries. Ahaspora aims at developing a cohort of students who will be ready for the job market in this dynamic economy and possessing versatile skills sets and attitude for positively contributing to Ghana and the World.
