CAF awards U20 AFCON 2025 hosting rights to Egypt

Egypt has been awarded the hosting rights for the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on March 27, 2025. This decision comes after Côte d’Ivoire withdrew from hosting the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian government had previously submitted a bid to host the tournament, which will feature some of the continent’s young stars. The tournament is scheduled to begin on April 27, 2025, and the final will take place on May 18, 2025.

The CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 will feature 12 teams from across the continent, competing in a group stage followed by a knockout phase. The tournament will serve as a qualifying event for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, with the top four teams earning a spot in the global tournament.

Hosting the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 is expected to have significant economic benefits for Egypt, including an influx of tourists and investment in infrastructure. The tournament is expected to attract a large following from across the continent and beyond.

It will also provide a platform for Egyptian businesses to gain international exposure and sponsorship opportunities. Prior to this, Egypt had hosted several major tournaments, including the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2021 CAF Champions League final.

Egypt’s U20 national team will be looking to make a strong impression on home soil, having failed to qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The team will be hoping to draw inspiration from the home crowd and make a deep run in the tournament.
