A scholarship offer to high school scholars in Ghana has been instituted by the outreach arm of Threads by Dreads known as Threads by Dreads Foundation. Christiana Afotey, owner and designer of the fashion brand Threads by Dreads informed TheAfricanDream.net of this development.
In a conversation with TheAfricanDream.net Christiana Afotey said “each scholarship goes towards the winning candidate’s tuition costs for any University in Ghana” explaining that “the scholarship was established in memory of my late mother Mrs. Fedelia Adokailey Mensah.”
“This award will carry on part of my mother’s nurturing legacy — aide in community re-investment — by giving local scholars an opportunity to further their education and contribute to building a brighter future for young adults in Ghana” according to Christiana Afotey.
Scholarship stipulations
Ten qualified student candidates across respective high schools in Ghana will be awarded with the Mrs. Fedelia Adokailey Mensah Scholarship award. Each award would have a value of $250 US Dollars and will be awarded to the winning candidates in March 2017 during which they will be notified by a surprise
visit to their classrooms.
Downloadable scholarship applications are available in this link. The forms must be turned in no later than December 31, 2016. Winners of the first edition of the scholarship offer from the Foundation will be notified by March 2017.
In order for candidates to qualify for the Mrs. Fedelia Adokailey Mensah Scholarship Award they must be actively enrolled in a Ghanaian high school and must have no more than five occurrences of lateness or un-excused absences. Besides having an impressive attendance record candidates must maintain credit grades A and B throughout the calendar school year with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
As part of encouraging the spirit of volunteerism among students in Ghana the Foundation requires scholars to have a minimum of 40 hours on volunteer log. They must also have no prior outstanding tuition balances.
The US based fashion brand behind the scholarship Foundation imports their designs for sale worldwide from Ghana after they are made by a team of local artisans. The Threads by Dreads Foundation was established April 2016 with the mission to empower exemplary scholars into pioneering leaders of tomorrow.
