Silver Rain Gets Three Nods in AMAA 2015
List of nominees for the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) was announced at a star studded event that took place during the last quarter of June 2015 in Los Angeles, California in the USA. The movie Silver Rain by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, the Ghanaian writer-producer-director, philanthropist and women rights advocate was nominated in 3 categories.
The AMAA categories in which Silver Rain is nominated are Best Actress In a Lead Role for the performance of top Ghanaian actress Jocelyn Dumas, and Best Actor In a Supporting Role for the performance of Eastern Cape South African actor Chumani Pan. The movie was also nominated for its Achievement in the Best Make-Up category.
Engaging Storyline
Described by movie pundits as the pan-African film of the decade, Silver Rain was cast and shot on location in the West African countries of Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. South Africa and Kenya also provided some spice and quality to the spirit of the movie.
Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante describes her movie as portraying the story of a female street porter (Jocelyn Dumas) from Ghana’s capital city of Accra who are normally referred to as ‘Kayayoo’ in the local Ghanaian language, and how she meets Bruce; the heir of the Timothy fortunes in the most unusual circumstances that sets off a class war on their respective journeys of life.
As the film’s Producer, Adiza Yemohley Yemoh joins Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante and together, they bring out the best in the roles of the casts such as from Ghanaian lead actress Jocelyn Dumas whose role in the movie was a total breakaway from her usual high-standard or classy roles entwined with romance played in her previous movies.
“These nominations by the AMAA alone are endorsements enough of the hardwork we put into making this product and though we are excited about the prospects of winning a few awards here and there, our greatest victory however has been with the fans — the movie goers across Africa and other parts of the world who have received and supported Silver Rain” – Juliet Asante
AMAA is a platform that projects the black film industry to Africa and the rest of the world. The awards, now in its 11th year is a celebration of artistry honoring excellence in the African Film-making and Cinema worlds.
