Ghana: The Road to 2022 FIFA World Cup for the Black Stars

The Black Stars have two headline games which is a must win game for them. In view of this, the coach has called his 28 man squad to start camping.

The list consists of new and old faces. The likes of midfielder Mubarak Wakaso who is one of the core members of the team makes a return to the team after missing out in the last two games due to injury.

Another person who has made a return is striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom who has been away from the team for a while and Asante KotoKo player Ismail Abdul also makes a return to the team.

Edmund Addo is one of the new faces in the Black Stars camp, he plays his club football for Sheriff Taripol. With his current form, it is not surprising to see him in the squad. He helped his team reach the Champions league for the first time. Then going on to beat Real Madrid in the group stage was a massive shock for the whole world.

Afena Gyan is also another new face in the Black Stars camp. The 18years old player plays for AS Roma in the Italian Serie A. He made his debut against Cagliari and gave a massive performance earning him the call up to the Black Stars camp.

At the press conference where the Black Stars squad was announced, Head Coach Milovan Rajevac commented on Afena-Gyan’s invitation.

“I believe the people of AS Roma, and Mourinho is a famous coach, he’s known for his accomplishments in his career and if they are assured to give him a chance, then we also believe he is good for the Black Stars”.

The Black Stars will be hosted by Ethiopia in Orlando, South Africa on the 11th of November, 2021 for their return leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The first leg which was played in Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana ended in a 1-0 defeat for Ethiopia, the Black Stars have won their two games and Ethiopia will also be looking for a win in this game as well as the Black Stars.

On Sunday 14th November, 2021 the Black Stars will host South Africa in Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana for the return leg.

The first leg was a 1-0 defeat for the Black Stars in South Africa. The Black Stars will be looking forward to winning these games because it is the only time for them to progress to the next stage of their campaign.
