Nursing Staff Agency (NSA) LLC was established as a private firm in 2021, in Homewood, Illinois in the United States (US) by Mrs. Scholastica Amekugee (BSN, RN). She considers the move a fresh solution to the insufficient nurse staffing in US healthcare system that continues to jeopardise patients’ safety.
Mrs. Scholastica worked as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse until she was laid off at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She experienced the challenges nurses and other healthcare professionals face firsthand, from long hours at work to fears of infecting families and loved ones with COVID-19.
Her experiences during COVID led her to establish NSA LLC to help address some of the challenges in the nursing profession. Her agency provides staffing assistance to healthcare facilities in the south suburbs of Chicago and also offers flexibility to nurses who would have otherwise quitted the profession due to conflicting personal or family commitments.
“I founded NSA LLC as a women owned, and women driven company to understand the challenges nurses face in healthcare and develop staffing solutions to remove these challenges,” said Mrs. Amekugee to TheAfricanDream.net in a conversation.
The agency is a supplemental healthcare staffing company that provides ‘Pro Re Neta’ (PRN) which translates to “as the need arises” assistance to health facilities, clinics, among others. They evaluate their clients’ facility needs in order to ensure their safety. Some of the facilities we serve include doctors’ offices, hospitals, Assisted Living Facilities, schools, skilled facilities and hospices.
Since its establishment, NSA LLC has provided nurses to assisted living facilities, skilled facilities, psych homes and hospitals in the south suburbs and the Chicago-land area. It has ensured that these hospitals and healthcare facilities are not understaffed while helping to improve their nurse-to-patient ratio.
The Ghanaian-born nurse and entrepreneur promotes favourable conditions of service for nurses and also works to empower nurses in her community.
