Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has delivered on his promise to support Beach Soccer Ghana with an amount of Ghc 51,000 towards the ‘One Ghana Unity Cup’ and future beach Soccer development in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
The Mayor of Accra pledged support for Beach Soccer Ghana when he first took office and has begun to take action on his promise with a contribution towards the up coming ‘One Ghana Unity Cup’ which kicks off on Saturday July 15, 2016.
The Mayor also donated a glittering giant golden cup to the President of the Beach Soccer Association of Ghana; Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, which would be given to the champions of the three day beach soccer festival.
The maiden edition of the ‘One Ghana Unity Cup’ is supported by headline sponsor Style Up Gel & Pomade for Men produced by Ghandour Cosmetics. The official kit sponsor is PUMA and Santa Cola will be providing refreshment for the novelty tournament. The ‘One Ghana Unity Cup’ will see the best players from the four main coastal regions of Ghana in the forms of the Greater Accra, Volta, Central and Western regions respectively. Teams from these regions will face each other in what will be the first of many inter regional beach soccer tournaments.
“The competition is set to be used as a marker to select the best players for the Ghana national beach soccer team — the Black Sharks” says Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Sharks will play their Kenyan counterparts in the first round of the two leg AFCON 2016 (African championship) beach soccer qualifier.
Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing One Ghana peace and Unity initiative, organizers have confirmed that they will join the El Wak Keep Fit Club located in Ghana’s capital city of Accra for a mega walk which is expected to be graced by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama.
