HWPL commends TheAfricanDream’s global peace efforts

A letter addressed to TheAfricanDream from Lee Man-hee, the chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) in 2024 commended TheAfricanDream’s efforts towards promoting global peace.

Since the past year, TheAfricanDream has supported and promoted HWPL’s intercontinental global peace events. The organization which is an international nonprofit has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC).

Its major initiatives revolves around peace legislation, peace education and interfaith conflict resolution. The nonprofit believes in creating a culture of non-violence and conflict resolution through a practical and holistic approach to achieve sustainable peace.

With over 170 branches around the world, they aim to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by working across all sectors of the society.

“On behalf of our organization and its members worldwide, I extend my deepest gratitude to you for your invaluable contribution in spreading the news of peace through your coverage of our peace event,” said Mr. Man-hee in a letter addressed to Oral Ofori, the founder of TheAfricanDream.

Peace efforts

Under the theme “Implementation of Multidimensional Strategies for Institutional Peace,” HWPL held its 9th Anniversary of World Peace Summit in September 2023. TheAfricanDream was invited and represented at the event.

The summit with operations in 130 countries around the world, led initiatives that proposed strategies inclusive of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and civil society in the efforts for implementing conflict resolution and establishing peace.

In February, HWPL hosted an online event with approximately 160 media persons from 49 countries in attendance, including Mr. Ofori. The International Workshop on Peace Journalism marked the publication of HPWL’s 2nd journal, ‘Peace Journalism Studies’, produced in cooperation with 9 journalists worldwide.

With the theme “Media Perspective on Conflict Resolution,” the event deliberated on the ideas of peace journalism, bringing out the collective voice of an international network of media for peace, and suggesting future action plans to appeal to people globally to have peace in their minds. Among the contributors, 6 speakers delivered addresses on the role of media in building peace, peace-related issues, peace journalism and global security.

As a media partner to HWPL’s peace initiatives, TheAfricanDream supported and promoted HWPL’s peace walk in Lafayette Square, Washington DC, US, in partnership with the African Union Mission, as part of its “11th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace Communication for Global Citizenship of Reconciliation and Tolerance.”

The peace walk held in May was in alignment with the African Union and its “Silencing the Guns” initiative. Through its partnership with the AU Mission in DC, the event promoted unity and solidarity, while engaging not only government officials, but also the diverse African diaspora, to encourage greater communication and participation in efforts that address root causes of conflict in Africa.

Commendation

As a partner organisation, TheAfricanDream plays a significant role in HWPL’s “peace journalism” that considers the strong essence of media platforms in promoting world peace. HWPL’s global peace advocacy resonates a call for media effort, urging all media outlets to embrace their role in fostering a world united in pursuit of lasting peace.

HWPL firmly believes that the media plays a crucial role in spreading a culture of peace, and noted that TheAfricanDream’s “efforts of peacebuilding has been instrumental in reaching a broader audience and inspiring individuals to join us in our pursuit of a world free from conflict,” according to the letter.

“As we continue our journey toward a world of lasting peace, we are confident that, with allies like you, our message will resonate with an even wider audience. We look forward to working together to make a tangible difference in the lives of people around the world.”

Mr. Ofori believes in the peace-keeping capabilities of the international nonprofit, and is “looking forward to engaging in more peace initiatives with HWPL because what the world needs the most at the moment is peace,” he said in a statement.

TheAfricanDream supports HWPL’s Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) which was proclaimed in 2016. The document was later formally recognized and ratified in countries and regional organizations, after gaining support at the UN. The DPCW was drafted by HWPL’s Chairman and international law experts representing 15 countries. Its articles are divided into three sections: preventing conflict, settling conflict, and maintaining a culture of peace.

“TheAfricanDream believes that preparing the new generation to be champions of peace is the key to unlocking a harmonious world. We believe that this takes precedence over all others in its ability to positively impact the future of our global community. This is why we support HWPL, and we will support others like it if the need arises” said Mr. Ofori.
