The GPSF of North America maiden health trip to Ghana
The Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation (GPSF) on 25TH March 2017 made their maiden trip to Tarkwa Municipal Hospital in Ghana.
The team comprised of three medical professionals: Dr. Theodora Fynn (Pulmonary Disease Specialist), Dr. Francis Amoo (Internal medicine) and Ms. Josephine Thompson a nurse.
The team also presented prescription medications donated by AmeriCares USA worth $220,000 to the Hospital to be given to patients free of charge. The team saw 40-50 patients a day on average.
The team met hardworking medical staff giving their best while working under trying circumstances. The challenges of the hospital are the lack of physicians and also the breakdown of medical equipment.
The GPSF is currently in dialogue with a local Telecommunications Company to provide internet access to the hospital which will facilitate telemedicine options.
The organization has also engaged the services of a US based company to help provide customized solutions to increase the lifespan and performance of medical equipment at the hospital. Medical outreach trips to Tarkwa will be held four times a year. The next group will be at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital for two weeks in July 2017.
The GPSF, in line with its mission, will continue to partner with Ghana Health Services to facilitate quality healthcare delivery in Ghana. Please contact us at ghanaphysiciansusa@gmail.com for further details.
