The Second lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia says the government is committed to fully digitizing the entire Ghanaian economy with the deployment of cutting edge technologies to ease the way of life of Ghanaians.
Several critical building blocks for the formalization of the Ghanaian economy include ensuring unique identification systems like the Ghana Card which has been rolled out nationwide. Other systems being worked on include the National Digital Property Addressing System, seamless payment system, E-case tracking, paperless port and E-registration of companies.
“So we hear about digitization and we are wondering how that is so, you are here in America and you know how everything revolves around that, how everything is computerized from your address, your social security, to hospital,” the Second Lady said to TheAfricanDream.net during an interview.
She went on to rhetorically ask: “so how do we develop as a nation if we don’t have those fundamentals? How do we develop as a nation if we don’t have a working address system and yet wonder how interest rates are high because defaulters’ rates are high because people cannot be found to pay back loans etc? But when we streamline the [digitization of the] country then things will start bonding.”
The Second Lady also spoke to concerns in Ghana over the slow pace of development under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration; assuring that the government is working to lay the right foundation to turn around the lives of Ghanaians.

“If you are building a story-building and someone starts the foundation to the first level and they ask to continue and you come and realize the foundation is weak, what will you do. You have to spend time fixing it. During this process someone else might say this man to whom we gave the nod to run the country has not done anything, but I say he is actually taking his time to fix the country well so we all benefit in the future,” said the Second Lady as she asked for calm and patience for the current government to fix Ghana.
The Wife of the Vice President of Ghana applauded Ghanaians in the Diaspora for their diverse roles played towards ensuring that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the past elections and asked for continued support towards the upcoming 2020 elections.
She spoke over the weekend at a cookout event organized by the NPP Metropolitan Area Chapter in Washington, DC. The occasion was also used to outdoor the NPP women’s wing in Washington, DC known as Loyal Ladies.
Loyal ladies is a volunteer group under the youth wing of the NPP. The group aims to reach out to the electorate in the nooks and crannies of North America to ensure success for the NPP in the upcoming 2020 December general elections and all subsequent elections in Ghana.
