Ghana: 12 candidates cleared to contest presidential election
Ghana’s Electoral Commission has given the green light to twelve presidential aspirants to contest the December presidential election.
The twelve were cleared after successfully going through the filing process of the Electoral Commission.
Those cleared include the incumbent Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party and former President John Mahama of the main opposition National Democratic Congress.
Three female candidates including former first lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party have also been given the green light to contest the upcoming polls.
The EC has however disqualified five presidential aspirants from contesting in the upcoming polls.

Chairperson for the Commission, Jean Mensa attributed the disqualification to forgery of signatures and endorsees.
The disqualified aspirants are independent candidates Kofi Koranteng and Marricke Kofi Gane.
The rest are Akwasi Odike of the UPP, Kwesi Busumburu of the PNP and the UFP’s Agyenim Boateng.
The EC said it is forwarding the details of the fraudulent activities to the Police CID for a probe.
Ghana will be holding presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2020.
