George Floyd’s son visits site where dad was killed: ‘We want justice’

The son of George Floyd addressed a crowd on Wednesday when he visited the scene of his father’s killing alongside other family members and the family’s attorney. Quincy Mason Floyd, who looked emotionally distraught, called for justice for his father and the indictment of the other officers involved in the incident.

The Floyd family’s visit to the scene of the incident was before new charges were announced against all the four officers later in the day.

“No man or woman should be without their father,” Quincy said. “And we want justice for what’s going on right now.”

The family attorney, Ben Crump, also reiterated their call for the other officers involved in the incident to be charged.

“We’re expecting these officer to be charged as accomplices for the killing of George Floyd,” Crump was quoted by New York Daily News. “Floyd was an American citizen and George Floyd was a human being. George Floyd deserved humanity. When he couldn’t breathe, none of us could breathe.”

All the world is watching,” he added.

In related news, the mother of Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter has also called for justice during a press conference at City Hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday, tearfully talking about moments their daughter would never get to experience with her father.

I wanted everybody to know that this is what those officers took from me,” Roxie Washington said, with their daughter, Gianna Floyd by her side. “At the end of the day, they get to go home and be with their families. Gianna does not have a father.

He will never see her grow up, graduate, he will never walk her down the aisle. If there’s a problem that she’s having and she needs her dad, she does not have that anymore,” she continued.

I’m here for my baby and I’m here for George because I want justice for him. I want justice for him because he was good. No matter what anybody thinks, he was good.

On Wednesday, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison confirmed the three other officers involved in Floyd’s death have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, CNN reports.

Thomas Lane, 37, and J. Alexander Kueng, 26, were filmed helping restrain Floyd while Tou Thao, 34, stood by facing onlookers, ignoring the deceased’s pleas that he could not breathe.

Derek Chauvin, the officer who was filmed with his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes until he became unresponsive and died, has also had his murder charge upgraded to second-degree unintentional murder. Chauvin was arrested May 29 on initial third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges.

I strongly believe that these developments are in the interest of justice for Mr. Floyd, his family, our community and our state,” Ellison said.
