Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong honored by Georgia State Capitol, U.S.

Ghanaian business magnate, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, has been honored with a distinguished proclamation as an Outstanding Citizen of the State of Georgia, in the United States (U.S.). The ceremony took place at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on April 14, 2025.

He is a distinguished Ghanaian entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience, leading multiple successful enterprises collectively called The Special Group of Companies Limited.

The Group includes the Special Investments Ltd which is one of the largest real estate portfolios in Ghana and Special Ice Company Limited which produces most of the beverages consumed in the country. Dr. Ofori Sarpong also co-owns U2 iodated salt and United Television with the latter being among the most viewed TV stations in the country.

Dr. Sarpong’s recognition represents his exemplary contributions to global business and philanthropy. The honor was presented by Honourable Segun Adeyina, leader of the Georgia State Representatives, during the “Africa Speaks” forum.

This platform, organized by the Georgia Africa Legislative Caucus and the Ghana International Chamber of Commerce, focused on world affairs, business development, and the role of policy in shaping global progress.

Key highlights of his achievements

Dr. Sarpong was recognized for his business ventures’ transformative impact across Ghana and Africa, including Sarpong Ventures and the Special Group of Companies. He was designated as a Goodwill Ambassador of the State of Georgia, affording him every courtesy in his travels to other states and nations.

Dr. Sarpong was lauded for his far-reaching philanthropic efforts and strategic involvement in Ghana’s economic growth. He has been described by TheAfricanDream.co as a “beacon of determination, resilience, and success in the global business landscape.”

Prior to the honor given to him by the State of Georgia, Dr. Sarpong inspired and empowered students at Harvard University as a keynote speaker during the prestigious Institution’s 16th Annual Africa Development Conference (ADC).

He shared insights on leadership, entrepreneurship, and Africa’s economic transformation with students, urging Harvard students to Lead Africa’s Transformation at the April 2025 ADC event in the U.S..
