In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the GaDangme Association of Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area, donated basic items, and a scholarship program for exceptional children, to Teshie Orphanage Home, Camp 2, in Accra, Ghana. The donation packages included educational materials, rice, drinking water, soft drinks, sanitary pads, student bunk beds, and mattresses.

They were part of the association’s larger effort to support communities in Ghana and the United States. The 4-decade milestone was also to raise awareness of the Association’s goal, its advocacy history, and an opportunity to express its future vision.

The gifts were presented on behalf of the Association by Minister Edmund Lamptey, Mr. Samuel Sir Dondee Lamptey, Mrs. Grace Ankrah, Ms. Jessica Mills-Odai, Mr. Gilbert Quarshie, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Davies, Mr. Samuel Nii Amartey,Ms. Pascaline Lamptey, and Ms. Irene Lamptey.

Mr. Oded Tawiah Mensah accepted the gifts for Teshie Orphanage Home. He hoped that the “good Lord” would continue to bless the Association’s efforts, conveying his heartfelt gratitude for the special gesture.

Established thirty years ago by Mr. Colonel Nick Sowatey and Mrs. Janet Parker, Teshie Orphanage Home is one of the oldest orphanages on GaDangme land in Ghana. They provide a home for rejected and abandoned children from an early age within their residence, specifically for GaDangme people.

The home’s mission is to offer needy and underprivileged children, who are mostly located in Teshie town and its surrounding areas, with the necessary parental guidance for their growth. Over the years, several children who attended the centre have gone to further their education, and some of them have become well-known and respected personalities in Ghana.

Millions of children worldwide are orphaned and impoverished, unable to obtain necessities like food and education, according to Rowina Naa Odarkai Lamptey Moses, Chairwoman of the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

“But as followers of Jesus, we are called to serve these vulnerable little ones. Thus, being driven by our mission to inspire highly balanced and motivated individuals, with a conscious effort of their responsibility towards society, we decided not only to present donations to the home but also empower them,” said Chairwoman Moses.

The Chairwoman stressed that the orphans will have access to food and other necessities of life as well as a safe and comfortable environment thanks to the contribution of basic necessities like rice and sachet water.

“Education donations will assist in giving the orphans access to education, which could charge their lives. Orphans can benefit from education by gaining knowledge and skills that will improve their employment prospects and their future. Medical care like the sanitary pad’s donation will assist in protecting the orphans against infections, which is necessary for their health and well-being. This will lower their risk of illness and disease to facilitate daily activities,” she said.

The Association also has a long tradition of community involvement and cultural preservation. The group was founded to preserve and advance the GaDangme people’s cultural legacy, and it has been a vital part of the lives of GaDangme people living in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. The organization promotes solidarity and a feeling of community among its members through a range of social, civic, and cultural events.

The yearly Homowo Festival celebration, which unites GaDangme people to celebrate their ancestry, eat traditional cuisines, and take part in cultural acts, is one of the Association’s noteworthy contributions to the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area.

The Association looks forward to celebrating the significant milestone with the public to express their gratitude for an unwavering support that has lasted 4 decades. Invitation is open to everyone, whether as a member of the GaDangme Association or a friend or supporter, “your presence and participation will make this celebration memorable.”

“We invite you to join us in celebrating this remarkable milestone on September 27th 2025 at the Holiday Inn, College Park Maryland. Together, we can honor our heritage, celebrate our achievements, and look forward to a bright future for the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area,” said Chairwoman Moses.

“Taptap Send, Krowbw House and Goldstar Air, the wings of Ghana and belly of America are some sponsors for the Anniversary celebration. Let’s make this 40th anniversary a memorable and impactful event,” she added.
