President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu passes on

Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has passed away at the age of 82, following a brief illness, according to a statement released by his family.

The patriarch, known affectionately as “Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” beyond his positions of leadership, left a lasting impact. He was a prosperous businessman, philanthropist, and engineer who was born in 1942.

According to the statement from his family, “our patriarch, Engineer Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu—Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo, has passed away. He was from Umuohii Atta, in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State. The short illness that had befallen Chief Iwuanyanwu ended on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was eighty-two years old.”

Hardel and Enic Construction Company, which he founded in Imo State, was among Nigeria’s first locally owned construction firms and was essential to the development of the country’s infrastructure. 

His business endeavours also encompassed media, sports, and educational initiatives, which demonstrated his wide range of interests and dedication to the advancement of the country. He gained considerable respect and affection for his philanthropic support of various healthcare and educational programs.

According to the family, Chief Iwuanyanwu is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, and a large number of children and grandkids, one of whom is the managing director of Champion Group of Newspapers, Dr. Mrs. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa. 

His family indicated respect for customs and the community’s engagement in the process by saying that the burial plans would be disclosed after consultations. 

“Details of the burial will be announced later by the family after due consultations,” the statement said in closing.
