Abeiku Santana appointed Deputy CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority

In a major boost to Ghana’s tourism sector, President John Mahama has appointed renowned media personality and tourism advocate Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

The appointment reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging homegrown talent and media influence to position tourism as a cornerstone of national development. His appointment has been met with popular support across the tourism industry. One of the most vocal endorsements came from the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), where he is a long-standing and active member.

TOUGHA President Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah described the move as both strategic and timely, calling Santana a “visionary leader” who brings “a wealth of experience, unmatched passion, and dynamic thinking to the role.” She added that the industry is confident he will usher in a new era of innovation and growth for the sector.

Often referred to as “Mr. Tourism,” Abeiku Santana is the CEO of Kaya Tours, one of Ghana’s most prominent tour companies. Through Kaya Tours, he has played a pivotal role in promoting domestic tourism, encouraging Ghanaians to explore their backyards while also marketing Ghana’s unique attractions to international travellers.

His work has taken him to major tourism forums and media platforms across the globe, where he has passionately portrayed Ghana as one of Africa’s top travel destinations. His understanding of both the business and cultural dimensions of tourism gives him a unique edge in the role.

Beyond his entrepreneurial work, Santana has long used his platform as a media personality to advocate for the growth of the tourism industry. From highlighting hidden gems across the country to leading tourism awareness campaigns, he has made it his mission to reshape how Ghanaians and the world perceive travel within and to Ghana.

In his new position, Santana is expected to work hand-in-hand with the GTA’s executive team to implement policies aimed at increasing tourism revenue, promoting ecotourism and cultural heritage, and enhancing Ghana’s global image.

His extensive network—spanning the media, business, and creative sectors—positions him to build strong public-private partnerships that could be instrumental in realizing the government’s vision of making tourism a leading contributor to the national economy.

Industry observers see his appointment not just as a personal milestone but as a strategic shift for the Ghana Tourism Authority. With his passion, charisma, and proven track record, Abeiku Santana is poised to bring renewed energy and purpose to the tourism landscape—helping to unlock Ghana’s full potential as a world-class destination.
