2024 Africa On The Avenue festival in Washington DC to be exciting
Africa On The Avenue festival, a celebration of the vibrant African immigrant community will hold at Bruce Monroe Park, at 3012 Georgia Avenue NW, in Northwest Washington, DC came May 18, 2024 in the United States (US).
In the 2023 edition, the festival was hosted by Katea Stitt, WPFW radio Program Director; with sounds from the African Diaspora by DJ Underdog. It featured live music, local vendors, food, balloons, and face painting. There were also readings from Sankofa Video, Books & Cafe. This year marks the 2nd edition of the annaul event.
Last year’s edition of the festival also featured live performances from Los Rumberos (Afro-Cuban ensemble), Farafina Kan (West African drumming, dancing, singing), the Feedel Band (Ethiopian ensemble), Dokun Oke and the Odu-Afrobeat (Nigerian Afrobeat ensemble) as well as Cheick Hamala Diabaté, a Malian ensemble).
Brianne Dornbush, District Bridges Executive Director; and DC Councilmember Brianne Nadeau, and Director Kaba were the festival’s speakers in 2023.
Africa On The Avenue is proudly sponsored by District Bridges Lower Georgia Avenue Main Street (LGMS) Program. Supporting sponsors include, Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), Urban Investment Partners (UIP), I Stand With Immigrants Initiative, and DC Mayor’s Office on African Affairs.
Local vendors at the 2023 event included: Yakitoko, DC International Market, DC Water (Wendy the Waterdrop), Fashion by Design, Trini Pepper Sauce, Dogs on the Curb Food Truck, Fashion by Design Boutique, RBG123, Mutani’s Pocket, Flag Man, Candor All Natural, Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, Cane & Coconut, Atlanta Sauce Company, and National Juneteenth Festival.
