Ghana’s Black Stars to play Mexico in October’s international friendly
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) have agreed to an international friendly between African powerhouse, Ghana and 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup champions, Mexico in the United States as part of the 20th anniversary of the MexTour.
This International friendly forms part of Ghana’s preparations for important competitions such as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast next year January.
The match also forms part of Mexico’s preparations for the quarterfinal matches of the CONCACAF which is scheduled for November 2023.
According to a joint statement from GFA and FMF, the match will be played on Saturday, October 14. at the Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium. The stadium, home of MLS’ Charlotte FC and NFL’s Carolina Panthers, is a frequent host of MexTour matches, as well as international competitions like the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Mexico is No. 12 in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings, while Ghana is 60th and played in last year’s World Cup. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams, with Mexico winning the previous three.
The friendly matches will serve also as vital preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to commence in November 2023.
Ghana will also play the US National team at GEODIS Park in Nashville on October 17 before wrapping their tour of the United States. However, the Black Stars will face the Central African Republic in their final AFCON 2023 qualifier in September before the two international friendlies in October.
Tickets for the match in Charlotte will go on sale this Friday, August 11 at 10 a.m. ET, through www.somoslocales.com.
