Emmanuel Obuobi honored at African Community Service Awards (ACSA)
Emmanuel Obuobi, popularly known in the Ghanaian Community of Virginia, United States as ‘Coach Aberga’ was honored with a community service award at the African Community Service Awards (ACSA) held on September 4, 2022, at the Mark Center Alexandria Hilton hotel
Accepting the award at the ceremony, he said “first of all let me say congratulations to everyone that got nominated for an award. It shows how hard you have all been working and your impact on the community.”
“I will also love to say a big thank you to the organizers of this great event, even as I also seek a special blessing from God to the one who did this great honor unto me by nominating me to be considered for this award,” he continued.
“Today I am dedicating this award to my lovely wife Mrs. Gifty Obuobi as her birthday present. Her birthday falls on the 14th of September so this couldn’t have come at a better time,” added Coach Aberga dedicating the award to his wife.
The coach came to the United States (U.S.) in April 2012, having served prior to that as a soccer coach with the Airforce in Ghana. He also served as Assistant Coach for Adansi Praso WAECO FC under coach Ebenezer Sefah.
He did player scouting for many soccer clubs including Ghana’s renowned Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, Aduana Stars, Medeama SC, and Ashgold among others. Coach Aberga holds a Confederation of Africaine de Football (CAF) license C from Ghana and a coaching license in the United States as a soccer coach.

As a proponent of fitness and wellbeing, Coach Aberga started a keep fit club called Dignity Legends Fitness Club, in Woodbridge, Northern Virginia which was popularised and patronized on Saturdays by African immigrants in the community who join for fitness sessions.
However, the fitness club has grown over the years to embrace everyone. Through contributions from the Dignity Legends Fitness Club, Coach Aberga has on numerous occasions donated to various sporting clubs in Ghana. He also mobilizes youths in the community and arranges soccer matches.
“I love you all members of Dignity Legends Fitness Club, thanks once again to everyone who made it and those who couldn’t make it, we feel your spirit and we honor your hard work,” he said in his award speech.
Coach Aberga also works as a mechanic in addition to standing in as a part-time soccer analyst on Star Times metro TV program in Ghana.
The African Community Service Awards (ACSA) has been organised annually since 2016 by Alln1 Productions Inc. The award honours individuals or groups who have given their time and resources to help Africans all over the world, especially Africans on the mother continent, Africans in Diaspora, and African-Americans.
