Ghana: Morgan International Community School Offers Global Standard

Morgan International Community School (MICS) in Gomoa-Manso, Ghana, is a co-educational primary & secondary boarding school that welcomes students from all over the world since August 2013.

MICS was founded by Mr. Obed Danquah, and has since established strived to become a worldwide recognised hub for cutting-edge international education.

Programs offered

The elementary school at Morgan International Community School is growing exponentially.

On their site in Manso, Ghana, they operate a primary boarding section with primarily children aged 4 to 10.

They also offer a Cambridge lower secondary school for learners aged 11 to 14 and a Cambridge upper secondary programme, which prepares students for university education once they complete lower secondary school. It is aimed towards students aged 14 to 16.

Morgan International Community School is a proud member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Program. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a demanding two-year programme designed primarily for students aged 16 to 19.

Prestigious awards

Academic quality, entrepreneurial education, and leadership training have helped the institution achieve significant success in the private educational sector. MICS was named:

• The Fastest Growing Private School in Ghana in the Pillars of Modern Ghana Awards in 2014 (less than a year after its founding)
• Most Preferred School in Ghana in the African Quality Awards in 2016.
• Ghana’s Leading Private School in 2017.

MICS once caught the eye of United Nations

In 2017, a student of MICS earned the “Award of Excellence” at the United Nations SDGs Student Photo Competition in Tokyo, Japan, for his photograph “Struggle of Childhood.”

The 17 year-old Master Mathew Paa Kwesi Williams, an International Baccalaureate Diploma student, received a monetary prize of 20,000 Japanese Yen (about GHC800), as well as a camera and photo books, for his creativity.

The SDGs photo contest is the first of its kind at the time and was launched in Japan in 2016, amassing a total of 624 entries from 47 countries, including Ghana.

The competition was initiated by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Tokyo and Sophia University with special cooperation from Getty Images, Japan and endorsed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Global Compact Network, Japanese International Cooperation Japan (JICA), Japan Civil Society Network on SDGs.

The completion skyrocketed MICS further to global attention, and they appreciated the 6-year-old boy whose image won them the 2017 SDGs Photo Contest with a substantial offer. They offered Nana Yaw Oman Krado a 100% educational scholarship.

The scholarship package, which ranged from GH9,000.00 to 14,000 dollars per year, was presented to him and a 13-year-old girl, Sarah Ohenewaa Darko, who was also a beneficiary of the school’s scholarship fund, at the School’s Entrepreneurship Education Day programme held at the Gomoa Manso school campus on December 15, 2017 by MICS founder, Obed Danquah.
