Ghana and Canada rekindle a historic soccer rivalry at the senior level during their October 13, 2015, clash at Washington DC in the United States. The million dollar question is, will the Canadian underdogs repeat history with another victory or will Ghana avenge the 2-1 defeat suffered during their first clash a little over 30 years ago?
A desire to repeat history and the urge for revenge have created suspense and generated interest in this friendly. Canada recorded that victory June 2, 1985, in Seoul during The Presidents Cup; an international tournament hosted by the South Koreans at the time.
It is in view of this high stakes that Top Global LLC, (a US based sports management company who are organizers of this game) are making feverish preparations to ensure a successful match which is anticipated to attract a largely cosmopolitan crowd.
The above picture was painted to a delegation of media personnel that paid a courtesy call on the officials to explore details about the clash between the African soccer giants, 24th on the FIFA rankings and their North American underdogs, perched at 116 as of September 25, 2015. The media delegation comprised Executive Officers of TheAfricanDream LLC and TribeZone Africa TV in the persons of Oral Ofori and Kofi Jacquaye respectively.
On hand to talk to the delegation was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Top Global LLC Rev.
Lord Asante Boadu, who was very excited to receive the US based Ghanaian media practitioners into his offices in Gaithersburg Maryland in the USA. He and his partner, Michael Bannerman-Hyde, said it was good to have members of the media pay extra attention to the efforts their organization was putting into ensuring the success of the October 13 game to be played at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC.
Kofi Jacquaye and Oral Ofori on their parts wished the organizers well and encouraged media practitioners and institutions in the USA and especially within the African Diaspora to give the upcoming game maximum coverage owing to its historic nature.
Top Global LLC as a Sports Management firm in the words of Rev. Boadu, the soccer-loving-preacher, is “a firm that plans, negotiates and showcases exciting soccer matches and tourneys with the objective to promote and grow the love of soccer worldwide”. He continued, “we collaborate with various sponsors, advertisers, and media syndicates to bring these events to soccer fans in the United States, Canada and worldwide”.
In his response to a question from Oral Ofori of TheAfricanDream LLC about the significance of the Ghana-Canada friendly, the Reverend said “We want to use this game as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between all the countries involved. The game seeks to offer Ghanaians in the Diaspora an opportunity to see their beloved Black Stars play in the Washington DC area which is very cosmopolitan and has lots of soccer loving Africans and non-Africans alike.
“For the Canadians, they will be able to rub shoulders with a top class Ghanaian side not as underdogs, but as worthy competitors that plan to use this game as an opportunity to emerge from the shadows of soccer maturity and show the world how the game is growing in Canada too. This will be a great cultural extravaganza uniting diverse cultures, something we are proud to be an integral part of” revealed Michael Bannerman-Hyde, a Top Global LLC partner.
An interview conducted by Oral Ofori on Rev. Boadu during the visit and videotaped by the Tribe Zone Africa crew showed the Reverend saying security for the Game is going to be provided by the DC police. Ghanaian music group Ruff n Smooth and Bizzi B will be providing half-time entertainment. There are also plans to have dignitaries from respective countries attend the game.
