Ghanaian TV Show Hosts Idolize Broadcast Icon — Earl Ankrah
Hosts of TV3’s popular morning show, ’Newday’, last Friday celebrated Ghana Television’s former morning anchor, Earl Ankrah live on their Ghanaian TV show.
Congratulating Mr. Ankrah on his birthday on 9th April, the ‘Newday’ team referred to him as “Legendary Earl Ankrah” and applauded his widely celebrated flagship role in the success of morning television in Ghana.
The hosts, Johnnie Beresford Hughes, a 2018 TV Personality of the Year, Berla Mundi, 2018 Glitz Media Personality of the Year 2018, and Cookie Tee, formerly of Starr FM and GHOne (all Ghanaian media networks), went to lengths to highlight Earl’s professionalism and contagious affability.
“I’m excited today, because today is a special day for legendary Earl Ankrah”, announced Hughes “I love him because what we are doing now was started by him in Ghana.” Cookie Tee revealed that she used to watch TV because of Earl Ankrah, saying: “I used to watch the news just because I will see that fair gentleman churning out the news. I miss his voice. I miss his composure as well.”
Johnnie Hughes stated: “Kudos to you Earl Ankrah! We’ll remember you for the channel that you gave all of us and the path that you created,” going ahead to also describe Ankrah as a “fantastic gentleman.”
Berla Mundi acknowledged Earl’s unpredictable “anything is possible” nature but lamented not having had the opportunity to meet him. Cookie however said, “I’ve met him twice at a photo shoot and he was so sweet. He was wonderful”.

Also celebrating Earl on his birthday, Moon Sangmore, host of ‘Over The Moon‘ and ‘Mukase International“, wrote on her WhatsApp status, “Everyone needs an Earl Ankrah in their lives!” – an indication of the impact Ankrah continues to make on players across the industry.
Earl Ankrah birthed the concept of morning TV shows in Ghana and anchored The Ghana Television Breakfast Show with flair and flamboyance, which won him spontaneous national admiration and earned him several awards, including ‘TV Personality of the Year’ and ‘TV’s Favorite Face’.
Currently, Earl Ankrah is the Head of Public Affairs of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. He is also a policy communications practitioner, PR specialist, media consultant and a macro-level HR expert. He is an advocate for women’s and children’s rights, through programmes with Ghana’s Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
Earl is a self-confessed TV addict, enjoys creative photography and aesthetic architecture. As an avid writer, he occasionally contributes witty articles and opinions to TheAfricanDream.net and also champions environmental protection concerns.
