7th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) to hold in November
The 7th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) will take place from 5-7 November at the State House Conference Center, Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria. This year’s theme, “Adapting Stability Through Diaspora Investment: Navigating The Path To Prosperity,” reflects the critical role that the Nigerian diaspora plays in shaping the nation’s economic stability and future development.
The NDIS is convened by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in collaboration with Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI). The hybrid event will feature keynote speakers, discussions, meeting rooms, investment pitches and exhibition halls.
The NDIS has established itself as a premier platform for connecting Nigeria’s diaspora community with investment opportunities back home. The summit is designed to encourage Nigerians abroad to invest in key sectors of the economy, while also fostering partnerships between diaspora professionals, entrepreneurs and local businesses.
Over the years, this event has attracted substantial interest from diaspora investors, policymakers and stakeholders, aiming to strengthen Nigeria’s economic landscape by tapping into the resources, knowledge, and expertise of its global citizens.
With an estimated 17 million Nigerians living abroad, the diaspora represents a significant economic force. Remittances from the diaspora have consistently contributed to the Nigerian economy, reaching US$20.1 billion in 2022. However, the summit goes beyond remittances, focusing on long-term investments in agriculture, technology, real estate, manufacturing, health and education to drive sustainable development.
Diaspora investment as a tool for economic stability
This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of diaspora investment as a tool for economic stability. In an era marked by global uncertainties, including economic downturns and post-pandemic recovery challenges, leveraging the diaspora’s wealth and expertise can provide much-needed stability for Nigeria’s economy. The summit will explore how Nigeria can adapt to these global shifts through strategic partnerships with the diaspora community.
Nigeria faces economic challenges, including high inflation, unemployment and fluctuating oil revenues. The NDIS aims to address these issues by exploring innovative investment solutions. By engaging the diaspora, the summit will highlight avenues for economic diversification, job creation and technological advancement.
The 7th NDIS will feature a wide range of activities, including panel discussions, networking sessions and investment showcases. These will focus on critical sectors where diaspora investments can make a transformative impact. Some key areas include, agriculture and agribusiness; technology and innovation; real estate and infrastructure; healthcare and education; manufacturing and industrialization.
Prominent speakers
The NDIS 2024 will bring together influential voices from the Nigerian government, international organizations and the private sector. High-profile speakers are expected, including President Bola Tinubu, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, and Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM.
These discussions will provide insights into government policies aimed at creating a favourable environment for diaspora investments. Key stakeholders from the Nigerian diaspora, including business moguls, venture capitalists, and innovators, are also expected to attend. Their success stories and experiences will serve as motivation for emerging entrepreneurs looking to invest in Nigeria.
